Kirkhill Forest mountain bike fun park and cycle trails, are just a couple of miles out of Aberdeen, making them hugely popular.
Kirkhill offers a good variety of tracks to suit riders of all abilities and degrees of fitness, and even features as a venue in the national SXC series .
Pitfichie's MTB trails lead through varied forest and across open hill tops to provide exciting rides through real countryside. Challenging granite slabs and a downhill specific trail help make this one of the most popular mountain bike venues in Aberdeenshire.
Scolty Hill and Shooting Greens
Scolty Hill is on the outskirts of Banchory, just over the River Dee from the town centre, and forms the eastern end of the Forest of Blackhall. It provides great mountain biking, but is very popular with walkers so be prepared for lots of interruptions especially at weekends.
Drumtochty and its neighbour Fetteresso are the biggest forests in the area and are suitable for short cycles or for a whole day. The multi-user route at Drumtochty is way marked white and offers two choices - a loop around Glen Bervie or a straight route through to join the other trails at Fetteresso.
Durris Wood currently offers a couple of marked trails and a complex network of unmarked trails that suits all abilities. There are plans to create a chairlift-serviced mountain bike park, snow sports centre and multi-activity adventure experience at the woods.
Bennachie Turnpike Trail
The Bennachie Turnpike Trail is a tough, circular mountain bike route, using for its first few miles part of the old Aberdeen to Inverness turnpike road. This is definitely one for the more experienced mountain biker.
Tarland Trails is a small mountain bike centre, in the village of Tarland. The trails are short, about 3km in total, but suit a wide range of users from family to experienced and competent riders. There is a family trail, a technical run, a big jump run and a pump track.
Iconic Clachnaben offers a classic circular mountain bike trail which makes you feel as if you are truly remote. Grinding ascents, a technical and exposed rocky descent, fast flowing forest sections and gentle firebreak sections. Something for everyone.
Ben Aigan in the heart of Whisky country offers an exposed circular mountain bike trail which provides superb views over parts of the Spey Valley. Tough climbing in parts and free flowing descents.
The Lecht Ski Centre
During the summer the Lecht offers two mountain bike tracks; a difficult red trail and a moderate blue. And, there is no need to cycle to the top of each trail, simply hook your bike onto the chairlift and enjoy the ride.
